Your First VisitYour first visit to our office for adult is the most important one. It gives both of us an opportunity to get to know each other. Establishing a good relationship is important to us in achieving our common goals. We understand that our philosophy of practice may not be suitable for everyone. This time together will allow us to determine if we are compatible. For some patients to our office, the first visit is for an emergency or a specific concern, in this case we will attend to the emergency situation or concern first and make you comfortable. What to ExpectIf there is not an emergency concern, the first appointment includes a comprehensive exam and diagnosis of your existing condition. This appointment takes approximately 1-1½ hours to complete. We spend a lot of time in the beginning asking questions and listening to our patients to learn what you value most! Our primary purpose is to understand what you want to accomplish with your dental health, and then help you accomplish this goal with proper dentistry. We will then review your past and present medical and dental history. Dr. Postol will then do a thorough evaluation of your oral health. We believe that through our examination we will discover any problems involving cavities, gum disease or a poor bite relationship; which may lead to head and neck pain or early loss of teeth. We will utilize an intraoral video camera during our examination to help us better educate you about the health of your mouth. Finally, we will determine from our examination what x-rays are necessary and if study casts of your teeth and jaw are needed. We believe in working together with you to develop preventive and treatment goals that are consistent with your needs and values, and, assist you in creating a plan to prevent further disease, further deterioration of your teeth and premature facial aging. At your follow-up appointment, a cleaning is typically completed. At this time we will review with you our previous findings and discuss with you your treatment choices. We will also discuss any financial concerns you may have, because it is your health and your time and money that count. Therefore, we discuss alternatives in preventive and reparative treatment plans so you can choose a plan that fits your values and goals.
